The Danger of Terry Jones…
It is sure that Jesus had no problem with calling out the Pharisees on their hypocrisy, and the Lord called called out the worship of false gods with little reservation in the Old Testament. But, does that boldness convey the same sense that is portrayed in the work of Pastor Terry Jones?
In 2010 we wrote an article about the proposed Quran burning and we strongly condemned the proposition. The fact is if a Muslim Background Believer wants to burn his or her Quran then that right is theirs, but for us to burn it only causes undue offense, and it certainly would never need to be publicized. The cross is offense enough, we don’t have to add to it or take away from it.
In regards to this new act of Terry Jones posting a video about Muhammad, we find it a misrepresentation of proper Christian work, and in fact contains misinformation and in accurate historical sensationalism. There is no need for us to make a mockery of Muhammad or the Quran in a way that is offensive and would cause people to harden their hearts. We do not believe Muhammad was a prophet nor that the Quran was inspired. This however does not mean that we are going to make insulting remarks about him or the Quran, though we may point out errors, inconsistencies, and lies surrounding them both. I pray that Terry Jones would repent and stop speaking as he does not speak out of love. I cannot see any desire in the video or his press releases or his previous actions that shows that he actually wants to see Muslims get saved. His desire is for publicity, fame, and is antagonistic in nature without the heart of Christ towards salvation.
The deaths of countless people will fall on Terry Jones head, all for a little fame and a little glory. I hope that America and the Islamic nations understand that Terry Jones does not represent the sentiment of Bible believing Christians who have been bought by the blood of Christ and desire to walk in truth and love. May God have mercy on those Christians who are working in North Africa and the Middle East, we know some of them personally and are praying for their safety.
